Apostolos Andreas Monastery
Right out at the wind-scoured north-eastern tip of Cyprus stands Apostolos Andreas — 'the Lourdes of Cyprus', where the Apostle Andrew is said to have struck the rock and brought forth a healing spring. For decades it was a rare thing: a pilgrimage both Greek and Turkish Cypriots kept crossing the divide to reach, tended not by resident monks but by a rotating handful of caretakers. A careful cross-community restoration has since pulled it back from decay. The church itself is modest; it's the setting that stays with you — the empty cape, the little chapel over the spring, and the plain fact of standing at the island's very edge.
